Concourse Communications Launches Wi-Fi Service at Newark Liberty

March 22, 2004 – Newark, NJ – This week, Newark Liberty International Airport becomes the latest airport to have a Wi-Fi system installed and operated by Concourse Communications Group. Coverage exists throughout all of Terminals A and B. Concourse will extend coverage to Terminal C later this year. Newark Liberty joins Minneapolis-St. Paul International, Detroit Metro and LaGuardia as airports with WiFi service powered by Concourse. Our contract with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey enables us to provide both wireless voice and data coverage in all three of its commercial airports as well as at other Port Authority venues,” said Dick Snyder, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Concourse. “We expect to have coverage in most of the terminals at Kennedy, LaGuardia, and Newark Liberty by early next year. We continue to see double-digit, monthly growth in WiFi usage in all of our airports and are excited about extending this capability to Newark Liberty, the 23rd largest in the US. On average, over a half a million passengers are enplaned every day in airports powered by Concourse WiFi. Many of these passengers are carrying laptops equipped with WiFi capability and increasingly, airport-based businesses are taking advantage of the existence of a wireless LAN. Concourse recently announced that MarketPlace Development is using the WLAN in LaGuardia for real-time content updates to plasma screens that it operates in the airport.
