FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wi-Fi Technology Expands at Detroit Metro Airport

APRIL 16, 2004 DETROIT, MI – Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), in partnership with its wireless communications provider, Concourse Communications Group, recently expanded its Wi-Fi, wireless Internet service to include the L.C. Smith Terminal. Wireless Internet access first landed at Detroit Metro Airport in December, when Concourse Communications completed installation of a Wi-Fi network at DTW’s McNamara Terminal / Northwest WorldGateway.

"The service has been so well received, that we decided it was worthwhile to offer Wi-Fi to our other passengers traveling through the airport’s older L.C. Smith Terminal, said Wayne County Airport Authority CEO Lester Robinson. We are also exploring the incorporation of Wi-Fi into our new North Terminal complex, which will replace the older Smith and former Davey terminals by 2008."

With the new Wi-Fi system installed, DTW becomes one of 15 major airports in the country to offer Wi-Fi availability in its terminals. In addition, dial-up users can still plug into data ports available at all of the airport’s public telephones, and certain concessions like the McNamara Terminal’s On-Line Café.

Travelers with Wi-Fi cards or wireless enabled laptop computers, PDAs and smartphones can now surf the web, send e-mail, even check flight status and headline news at blazing wireless speeds upwards of 400 Kbps.

"The Wayne County Airport Authority has shown a strong vision and commitment to being industry leaders in the Wi-Fi arena," said Joe Beatty, CEO of Concourse Communications. "Since our December roll-out, more than 6000 users have taken advantage of the McNamara Terminal Wi-Fi system, and usage more than doubled after the first month. There is definitely a growing market for Wi-Fi, especially at airports, and we are excited about working with airport management in Detroit to provide this service to even more of its passengers, visitors and employees."

"One of the things we learned from the recent J.D. Power and Associates Global Passenger Satisfaction Study is that we can improve customer satisfaction by offering additional services and amenities for our passengers,” said Robinson. “While the ultimate improvement for Smith Terminal passengers is a new North Terminal facility, interim improvements like the addition of Wi-Fi, new retail & restaurant offerings and facility touch-ups will make our Smith Terminal airport environment more enjoyable and convenient in the meantime."

In order to access the Concourse wireless system, users must have a wireless enabled notebook computer, PDA, smartphone or a device that has a Wi-Fi network card installed. While in the Smith or McNamara Terminals, users can simply launch their internet browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.) at which point a Welcome page should appear. Some users may need to configure their Wi-Fi enabled device by setting the SSID (or network identifier) to “concourse” or “DTW”. A small access fee of $6.95 (for a 24-hour period) can be paid via credit card, and other payment options are currently being explored. Concourse also has roaming agreements with seven wireless Internet service providers (WISPs), including Boingo, GRIC, iPass, SBC, Sprint PCS, STSN, and WeRoam from Switzerland. If a user already has a subscription with any of those WISPs, they will only need to sign-on with a username and password, and off they go. In addition, wireless users also have access to several free information sites, through the Concourse network including Detroit Metro Airport’s website, real-time flight information and links to headline news. The Concourse system also supports all popular Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), so enterprise users can securely access their corporate intranet sites.

For further help, users should refer to their Wi-Fi manufacturer’s manual. Concourse also provides customer care and telephone support 24 hours a day, seven days a week at (800) 550-5030. 24-hour email support is also available at support@concoursecommunications.com.
